On October 19, 2023, Rangendingen became the center of the best artisan ice cream in Germany for one day. Why? Because we at Krä Eistechnik had the honor of hosting the German preselection of the international"Gelato Festival World Masters", where the best gelato masters in southern Germany competed for the coveted places in the final for the best ice cream in Germany.
We were very proud to host our 14 creative and brave gelato maestri . Our branch manager Alexander Epp put it in a nutshell: "We had 14 seasoned, great gelato professionals with us who were eager to show what they were made of. And they didn't disappoint!"
The gelatieri had just 30 minutes to conjure up their gelato live and decorate it creatively in front of the critical eyes of a top-class jury. The artistic decoration was more than just a visual bonus - it was an important aspect of the evaluation.
The ice cream creations that were created that day bore sonorous names such as "Persian Night," "Gelato di Insalata con Yoghurt Dressing," "Dolce Vita" and "Sacher Cake Ice Cream. Each was a little work of art that promised explosions of flavor. It was a real spectacle to experience the creativity and passion of the participants live.
In the afternoon, the creations were tasted and evaluated by the four-member, expert and top-class jury according to appearance, taste, consistency and creativity. In the end, the "Top 3" were determined, automatically qualifying for the final for Germany's best ice cream:
1st place: Giuseppe Cimino from the Eis Rimini ice cream parlor in Rastatt (Baden-Württemberg) with his creation "Salad ice cream with yogurt dressing
2nd place: Thomas Micolino from Eiscafé By Rino in Rottenburg (Baden-Württemberg) with his flavor "Camelatte
3rd place: Waseem Matthaus from the House of Gelato in Gerbrunn (Bavaria) with his ice cream "Sachertorte".
And even though in the end only three of the 14 participants were able to make it to the finals , in the end everyone was a winner - because in addition to an unforgettable day, lots of new inspiration and exciting conversations, each participant can also adorn himself or herself with the Gelato Festival certificate of participation , which identifies him or her as one of the best gelatieri in Germany.
And at the latest, when after the award ceremony and the press photos the tension had dropped and the 14 ice cream flavors were released for mutual tasting and the participants could taste all creations to their heart's content, exchange ideas and talk shop about recipes, the Olympic thought was back: Being there is everything!
